Does My Phone Support eSIM? Full Compatible Device List 2026
Before you buy a travel eSIM, there's one question you need to answer: does my phone support eSIM? It takes less than a minute to check, and getting it right saves you from buying a plan your phone can't use. This guide gives you two quick ways to verify compatibility on any phone, followed by the full list of eSIM-compatible devices in 2026 — iPhone, Samsung, Google Pixel and more.
The 30-Second Check: Dial *#06#
The fastest universal test works on almost any phone, iPhone or Android:
- Open your phone's dialer (the app you use to make calls).
- Dial *#06# — the screen updates instantly, no call is placed.
- Look for a line labelled EID (a 32-digit number).
If an EID appears, your phone has an eSIM chip. If you only see IMEI numbers and no EID, your device most likely doesn't support eSIM.
You can also check in settings:
- iPhone: Settings → General → About → scroll down. If you see "EID", you're compatible. Or go to Settings → Cellular and look for "Add eSIM".
- Android: Settings → Connections (or Network & Internet) → SIM manager. If there's an option like "Add eSIM" or "Download SIM", you're good to go.
Does My Phone Support eSIM? Full Device List for 2026
Apple iPhone
Every iPhone from the XS onwards supports eSIM:
- iPhone XS, XS Max, XR (2018)
- iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max
- iPhone SE (2020 and 2022)
- iPhone 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 series (all models)
Important: iPhone 14 and newer models sold in the United States have no physical SIM tray at all — they are eSIM-only. iPhones sold in mainland China do not support eSIM (except some newer models with regional exceptions), so check your specific unit with the *#06# test if it was bought there.
Samsung Galaxy
- Galaxy S20, S21, S22, S23, S24, S25 series
- Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra
- Galaxy Z Fold (all generations) and Z Flip (all generations)
- Galaxy A54, A55, A56 and newer A-series flagships (varies by region)
Watch out: Samsung is the brand where region matters most. Some Galaxy models sold in the US by certain carriers, and many units sold in China and parts of Asia, ship without eSIM enabled even when the global version has it. Always run the *#06# check on Samsung devices rather than trusting the model name alone.
Google Pixel
- Pixel 3 and 3 XL onwards: Pixel 3a, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 series all support eSIM
- Pixel Fold and newer foldables
Pixel phones are among the most reliable for eSIM — nearly all variants support it regardless of where they were sold.
Other Brands
- Huawei: P40, P40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro (not the P40 Pro+)
- Xiaomi: 12T Pro, 13, 13 Pro, 14 series and newer flagships (global versions)
- Oppo: Find X3 Pro, Find X5 series, Find N2 Flip and newer
- Motorola: Razr (2019 onwards), Edge 40 series and newer
- Sony: Xperia 1 IV, Xperia 5 IV and newer

Compatible but Locked? Check This Too
Having an eSIM chip isn't quite the whole story. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you bought your phone on a contract or installment plan, it may be locked to your home network — and a locked phone will refuse to activate a travel eSIM, even though the hardware supports it.
How to check:
- iPhone: Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock. It should say "No SIM restrictions".
- Android: There's no universal menu — the safest way is to contact your carrier and ask, or try adding any eSIM and see if it's rejected.
If your phone is locked, your carrier can usually unlock it for free once the device is paid off. Do this at least a few days before you travel — unlock requests can take 24 to 72 hours to process.
What If My Phone Doesn't Support eSIM?
If your phone failed the EID test, you have three realistic options:
- Buy a local physical SIM on arrival. Workable, but expect queues, passport registration and airport pricing.
- Use international roaming. Simple but usually the most expensive option by far — often $5 to $12 per day depending on your carrier.
- Borrow a hotspot. If someone in your travel group has an eSIM-compatible phone, they can install the eSIM and share data with the rest of the group via personal hotspot.
The hotspot route is popular with families travelling for Umrah: one compatible phone with a larger data plan can keep two or three devices connected.
Your Phone Is Compatible — What's Next?
Once you've confirmed eSIM support and an unlocked phone, setup takes about two minutes: buy a plan, scan the QR code you receive by email, and turn on data roaming for the eSIM line when you land. The whole process is explained step by step on our how it works page, and common questions (like whether your WhatsApp number changes — it doesn't) are covered in our FAQ.
A quick summary of the check:
| Step | What to do | What you want to see |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Dial *#06# | An EID number appears |
| 2 | Check carrier lock status | "No SIM restrictions" / unlocked |
| 3 | Pick your destination plan | Coverage for every country on your trip |
